On Skinny Kernels

Why we evicted UI, infrastructure, and local schemas from the SSL — and what we kept. A manifesto on protocol over plumbing.

On Skinny Kernels

When you build a foundry, the easy path is to make it fat. Centralize the schemas. Own the storage. Run the deploys. Stand up the dashboards. We chose the other way.

What stayed

Three protocols: Identity, Trade, and Neuron. Each one is a thin contract, made of types, message shapes, and verification rules. No models. No vector stores. No databases.

What went

UI, infrastructure, and local schemas all moved out to the solutions that use them. The team behind each one can iterate without waiting on us.

Why this works

The protocol is the only thing that has to last. Everything else gets to change.
